Las Vegas, Nevada
The new 250 seat amphitheater and observatory will be constructed on the 500-acre campus of the Nevada State College adjacent to the Liberal Arts & Sciences building. The college had a desire to create an outdoor event space to accommodate the growing student body. Our team envisioned an amphitheater tucked into the sloping desert site which can be utilized for a variety of educational and extracurricular activities throughout the academic school year. A large pre-function area, a picnic area, and observatory are also integrated into this dynamic project. All site work and lighting will be contained and kept to a minimum to prevent disruption and damage to the native desert ecosystem. The white fabric structure was designed to provide optimum summer shade while allowing the winter sun to penetrate into the space to warm the concrete’s thermal mass. Integrated photovoltaic cells will provide dusk to dawn lighting for safety while electric lighting will conform to the standards of the International Dark-Sky Association. Our team worked with two tensile structure manufacturers and a local general contractor to develop the estimated cost of construction.
The project is currently awaiting funding.
